Default Oddest thing I've ever made.

For physics, we were assigned to build a bridge out of paper, white glue, and parts of toothpicks. It has plenty of other restrictions as to its construction, and its had me stressing as its a double test grade

What I get for procrastinating it until the last three days before its due when I've had months , and that is also reflected in its lack of beauty / quality lol

Over the past few days I've gone through some weird techniques, including rolling paper into tubes, strategically bending said tubes, using a hand drill to drill holes in said tubes, widdling paper tubes to fit into other paper tubes, widdling toothpicks to fit into he drilled holes. All really odd things I'd never thought I'd ever need to do in life lol

Well, in the end, I got the bridge and laid a basic paper roadway across as per instructions and had a bit of fun making sure it had the correct span

Hopefully it will get me a decent grade, though it has no chance of breaking the record which stands at 1071 pounds held by a bridge weighing less than 500 grams.

During construction I joked with my friends that my room/ desk looked like a paper meth lab or something, and at the end of it, I ended up with a pretty strange collection of materials I've needed to use over my 15 hours of working on this piece of hell

But, now I'm definitely glad I'm done, and a lot less stressed out

Anyone else ever have to make something crafty like this? Im sure someone has had another project of doom...

Not quite as odd as a custom throttle body.

Sorry, I had to

i remeber making a tooth pick bridge to see what she would take back in middle school .

learned about triangulation , being the strongest since it cant change shape without one side changing legnth.

Good luck on the grade, I like the Charlie Waters/ Cliff Harris pic in the background.

real keen eye to pick out them two characters haha. I got it from a signing when they released their co-authored book. I have that signed pic, the book signed and a signed custom cowboys football.

Yeah, there are many different truss designs, involving many different things, all way more complicated than I think I could do with the time I gave myself, and my lacking craft skills, but triangles are always a +

And yes... that's kind of what I had in mind when I was making the bridge... "At least im not trying to build some important mechanical **** that could potentially mess up real bad."

Granted, this is kind of on a different level, but for engineering senior design a couple years back, we designed and created an automated white board. You draw what you want on the attached computer, and a robotic arm attached to the frame of a 4' whiteboard replicated what was on the screen.

Think I might have a video of it around here somewhere...

that sounds kind of awesome, oh the things engineers can create lol

I know someone on the forum used this as their engineering senior design project, but I'd like to do the same... ECM controlled, solenoid activated valvetrain. No more need for a camshaft, and a powerband that is maximized at all RPMs. Oh, and an idle that sounds as mean or as mellow as you want
