Can you get notifications when a new thread is started in certain areas? If I want a notification every time a new thread starts in gmt900 section how would I go about that?

You can subscribe to forums (sections) just like you can individual threads.

Go to the section you want notifications from (ie, GMT900) > click on 'Forum Tools' in the banner > 'Subscribe to Forum' > select notification type from dropdown and click subscribe button.
