Totally different technologies. Laminated glass is no longer just melted sand
There are a ton of standards for optical clarity, especially on cars with adaptive cruise and lane keep assist
In the case of the Lexus, its gold tinted, has an acoustic layer, has a rain sensing membrane and of course has to meet the requirements for the LKA cameras. Subarus also have the defroster elements under the wipers, in addition to the EyeSight features built into the top of the windshield
Meanwhile our trucks are just melted sand on a plastic liner, call it a day

shoot - i replaced the Sierra windshield in Oct 2019 for $200.
the H3 (a month later) cost $300 for a much-smaller piece of glass.
no electronics or special treatments for either; the explanation was that there're literally millions of trucks using that GMC's windshield whereas there just weren't many for the Hummer (less than 160k ever even built).
i can totally see with the super-low availability & all the electronic gizmos stuffed into the Rivian, where that astronomical figure'd come from. and that sucks on the chip... i got one driving home from purchasing my Dodge (right in front of my face, too).

Oh no for certain I understand the price differential. That is why truck parts are STUPID cheap in comparison to car parts. Just millions of silverados and sierras compared to a couple hundred thousand, if that, corvettes for example
