Kinda Cool Story!

I know this metro station well. I would challenge the location as well. He's placed himself at the "no turning back" point of a metro station. Right where everybody gets on the escalator INSIDE the building. There are stations where the escalator is outside and people stop on the street to listen to a guy playing a drywall bucket and saxophone. I promise you, waaaay more people would have stopped if he was at the top of the escalators at Gallery Place/Chinatown in DC. It dumps right out into a major city intersection, not into a tiny lobby style setup. People don't want to stop when they are indoors. Bad spot for the test, heck you had to go out of your way to give him money. A true street musician is not only pretty skilled at music but the art of separating you from your spare change or dollar bill.
Now that I think about it...he probably couldn't find a DC metro station where he could play outside, street musicians have all of them already.
