Default help with friends old school car

well a buddy of mine has a 4-door 84 oldmobile delta 88. not sure of the engine that came in the car but he said his dad f'ed him over and put a 283 in there or something, cant remember exactly what engine he told me.
anyways, he wants to put a chevy 350 4 bolt main in it. just wondering how hard the swap would be and what transmission would he use with the 350? really not looking for performance, just need a good reliable engine and trans that will bolt together fairly easily. also where is the best place to look for a 350. any info would be appreciated, thanks fellas

well funny thing you say that, he claims he dont want a race car, yet he wants to bore it out and put a supercharger in it. i told him we should just get it running then you can do whatever you want to it later on, especially considering this is his only car and it doesnt run

For that year Engine offerings were down to three, a standard Buick 231 cubic-inch V6, or optional Oldsmobile V8s including the 307 Rocket and 350 Diesel

307 rocket would be a direct swap in and would provide a reliable engine. 350's are everywhere including 4 bolt mains, I think any 200r or 700r4's will bolt up with the right flexplate. For reliability stick with something that came in the car it would bolt right up and be fine, nothing to worry about on the install as far as modifying anything

put a 350 in it and a 700r4 transmission unless he is going to swap to fuel injection

If you wanted something that bolted in with no mods, just put an olds 455 in it. Same physical block EXTERNALLY as the olds 307.
