handguns and carrying concealed

A 12 Ga. is a strong deterrent, too bad I don't have 1...yet. I mean to say, if I believed in guns.
Dave, why not bigger BBs, say buckshot?

Ok, I misread your statement. Well, here's my take on why not to use small little birdshot in shotguns haha.
/edit
I'll take a stab at answering.
Cause birdshot is for birds, plain and simple. I can't find my favorite page that has ballistic gel testing of a wide variety of shotgun loads, but birdshot makes for nasty, shallow wounds.
For effective loads, the FBI has a testing standard of a minimum of 12" penetration depth. Google up some ballistic gel tests and you'll see the difference.

At 1st read, it seemed like u were against bird shot; then later refer to how it hits. Is this a con 1st, pro after?
I know a lot of BBs cover area. Buckshot, well not so much area. Wound vs ...
If tryin to hit a target, you're goin for mass anyways, right? A handgun will get mass if u hit; a shotgun just has to get close.

No problem Bill, any advice i can offer is my pleasure. Last thing I want to see is a good standing citizen get F'd because of some liberal prosecuter/atty

Well let me touch on a couple of points... as a certified NRA instructor, I would not recommend a "handgun" for your first line of home defense. With that said, a laser is the last thing I would ever put on a gun, for a couple of reasons -
1. - Lasers will give YOUR position away at night... surprise is one of your tactical advantages - a laser takes this away.

But then again, if someone is threatening my life and im in the "right" to defend myself, why does it really matter what so called "mods" i have on my firearms, guess it goes back to the liberal defense/prosecutor that you may get

Hell my uncle had a guy walk into his house during the day and came running down the hallway with a big kitchen knife where he was with his wife, so he had heard him come in and already had his .40, he looked down the hallway and let him have it. He told me the police gave him more **** for his truck having a day old inspection sticker

True, very true, but i will just stick with my house alarm and get a big dog (Kruster my cat would probably go up to the burglar to make friends). I don't know squat about guns, never even shot one, so I would probably do more harm than good, plus my fiance won't stay in a house that has a gun in it. Plus i don't like guns anyways... Some may call me foolish but that is just my beliefs, I respect the fact that people can own guns and carry them so no beef there, just not for me...

So did your Uncle tell burgular, "never bring a knife to a gun fight?"

Had to post these facts i thought were interesting!
*Law-abiding citizens use guns to defend themselves against criminals as many as 2.5 million times every year -- or about 6,850 times a day.
*As many as 200,000 women use a gun every year to defend themselves against sexual abuse.
*one-half million self-defense uses. Every year, as many as one-half million citizens defend themselves with a firearm away from home.
*States which passed concealed carry laws reduced their murder rate by 8.5%, rapes by 5%, aggravated assaults by 7% and robbery by 3%
*If those states not having concealed carry laws had adopted such laws in 1992, then approximately 1,570 murders, 4,177 rapes, 60,000 aggravated assaults and over 11,000 robberies would have been avoided yearly.
