I have been tossing around the idea of quitting my job and going to school. The GI bill and a part time BS job would just about equal what I bring home now, but the thought of leaving a decent paying job in this economy is terrifying. I was cruising craigslist the other day and found an add for a "mechanics helper". I called the guy, he told me that he needs some help getting his race car ready for racing season. Turns out, its not a gig that I can leave my current job for, but basically I am a private mechanic for this guys MG collection. Hes got 7 of them, all in various states of decomposition. I go after work a few times a week and most Saturdays. The best part about it is my truck was my resume. Not a bad gig, never really considered the possibility of being a private mechanic, but this guy says he has friends with collections that are looking for a mechanic as well. One of his associates pays his private mechanic $150K/year. Thats got my name all over it.

Never thought my truck would get me anywhere but down the road.

 

the post 9/11 gi bill is nice. E-5 BAH (based of the zip of school) and you have to take 6.5+ credits, and at least one class on campus.
