Default Fullsize Factory Truck=25mpg!

2013 Ram 1500 Sets New Standard With 25 MPG Rating - Gas 2

Pretty crazy what theyre doing with full size trucks these days. My 2012 F150 RCLB for work stickered 17/23, I average 17mpg with it and thats with a lot of idling and two hours of bumper to bumper traffic every day. It gets an honest 21 running 75 on the highway too and still has the same power as the 5.3 of GM. The 6 speed transmission on the other hand is kinda annoying, doesnt seem to know what gear to be in a lot of times and can be clunky at times. The 6L80e with factory tuning seems to be the same way too, makes me wonder how the new dodge 8 speed is.

Either way, I dont think any of us wouldve expected this kinda mileage out of fullsize trucks 10 years ago.

Word, everyone was so hyped up about the Ecoboost's, and they get horrible MPG's in the real world.

Cody, what motor u got, EcoBoost? Cause yer right there as far as MPG ratings.
As far as EcoBoost, horrible MPG's real world? They rate that Fusion hybrid w/. Ecoboost at 47/47. Some rag tested it, they got 37. That's not so horrible to me. I mean I know it's a car, but still.

You are talking about a car, which only shows how skewed the EPA numbers actually are. A car should be able to achieve closer to EPA mileage, imagine what a big truck needs to do to cut through the same air.

The Dodge is more promising considering it has the electronic grille openings like the Ford Focus. It's the best of both worlds and a great way to pickup some mileage. Most grille block modifications on the ecomodder forums (that I've read about) can get 1-3MPG depending on how much you block off. Having the ability to open and shut them as you need should be good for 2MPG boost for the average truck and still keep the heat down when needed.

The new EPA ratings are MUCH closer than they used to be. My work truck has the V6 in it, whatever that is. My work truck gets damn close to whats claimed. A loss of 2mpg for me having a bit of a heavy foot and running 75 isnt too bad IMO. Its still a fullsize truck getting north of 20mpg running 75 down the highway bone stock.

I dont think its too hard to surmise that the 25mpg claimed by Dodge could be pretty accurate. Even if it comes up a MPG short, thats mpg that a lot of cars on the road are getting.

I was able to see close to 25MPG with my slow 6.2 diesel K5 Jimmy (when it was all stock). I'm sure If I ran smaller/thinner tires and tried hard, I could get 21-22MPG consistently.

Even with it lifted 4" and 35" mud terrain tires, I was able to get 16MPG highway with it.

It's just amazing seeing a full size, heavy gas truck getting good mileage.

I wonder if the mpg savings will be offset by oil consumption .

The DOD on GM trucks is terrible , these trucks use oil excessively , put in reg lifters and they are good again .

I think the manufacturer 's need to follow the ecoboost route but with twins on a V8

I'll believe it when I see it. If GM did a TT V8 on even a ltd. basis, it'd cause quite a stir. They'd be kickin the **** outta everything it came across.

GM would exclude that from regular cabs and other sub 40k sticker trucks for sure. 8th gear is only .667:1 on the dodge, so with some 3.92's it might not shift every five seconds on the highway. I just want to get mileage like some of you guys with z-71's claim with my lowered 2wd
