I don't have faith in insurance. I spoke to my insurance agent about purchasing flood insurance after the fact. He told me that it doesn't matter, the insurance company has ways of getting out of it. He said for example in my case the flood was caused by a canal breaking which was man made and they only cover natural flooding. But he said if it rained so bad we got flooded they would just call it an "act of god" and there would be no more discussion as far as help from them. I told him I don't believe in god, and he replied doesn't matter you choose to purchase the insurance we aren't forcing you too and when you sign you are basically agreeing to all the terms "god" related and all. He said basically the best thing you can do is have a good savings and credit so if something happens you can get loans to repair or replace.
The last thing he said to me was " Oh and don't tell my boss I told you this I just started."

FEMA is making up for the Katrina F/u, shelling out $600 debit cards to people who didn't even own Quacha, and like I said before there's an influx of COACH bags around Houston.

I have to admit, my friends who have lost all of their belongings have been in contact with FEMA and few have had a FEMA agent make it to their property for assessment. And these same friends that have pulled their belongings from the damaged homes and put them on the curb are already having indigents going through they're stuff to see what's still good. Like a damn yard sale. And this is before FEMA or an insurance adjuster has shown up.

I've been told Galveston isn't what the news is showing it to be. There are piles of tattered and moldy furniture, garbage, you name it. FEMA is telling residents with flood damage to spray Lysol on the water line where the mold is and this should stop the mold from spreading? What?

And there are a few real estate groups going around Galveston offering money to the people for their home/property as is, cutting a check right there. My friend Michele said just in her neighborhood there were 6 properties bought up by one group.

Just damn ugly.

i must be a lucky one, filed fema on monday, after storm, fema showed up the following sunday,we got home the next friday after storm, filed ins. claim on friday morning before we left,on home, ins. was there on tuesday following week, called on my truck when i got home on that saturday, all state was there the following wednesday, following week had checks for home and truck, and a letter from fema that i have been granted (approved) for a SBA loan for home repairs...!!! think i'll i'll ask for the 20% above actual cost of damages and put it towards out new home which we have postponed until first of next year. ( having built)

not bad concidering it only took fema almost 3 weeks to answer my request for a SBA loan, even with having ins. thanks to All State for being so Prompt, Truck goes to shop for repainting once again at end of week..

i made the claims with the assumption that my home was need of repairs, roof being one, fortunately i had a friend who stayed and took pics and sent them to me, which i then sent to my ins. lady..fema well i can say i am satisified with there prompt service, pending the outcome on getting the loan i was approved for...not bad for a months work..

pappy i really hope all works out well for ya, and the rest of ya that are still working on getting things back together...

Lisa, where are you getting this info about fema passing out 600.00 gift cards, i have yet to find info, i could use 600.00 i need a part for my truck lmao!!!!

Lucky one for sure. I filed with FEMA, my homeowners and auto insurance all on the same day, Monday following the storm when I came home to see the damage. The only people so far to show up to look was FEMA, and well, I don't expect **** from them.

I recieved a letter from my auto insurance to take the truck to a body shop for a quote and fax that to them, I haven't done it yet, the damage probably won't even equal to my deductible honestly, and well, we finally got a call from my home insurance adjustor yesterday, after having to go to his supervisor. He won't be out to look at the house until Wednesday, Nov. the 8th.
