You ready?
1989. USVI.
-My mother in-law drowned, smiling. I buried her at sea. My wife (ex now) insisted on coming.....(this is a whole story upon itself)
-My mother was terminally ill (cancer recurrence) and ended her life before the cancer destroyed her. (I don't talk of that often, mixed emotions)
-Hurricane Hugo swept directly over my Island and took everything else i had with the exception of my child, wife and sister.
-Moved to CA.
-One month to the hour of the Hurricane, a week after moving to CA. I lost my only possession in the Loma Preita earthquake, a lonely water glass.
-I was one of 16 persons to make it thru two national disasters in a one month period ever recorded by the national Red Cross. 3 of the 16 were my family.
The Red Cross gave us clothing and a some minimal furniture plus one month's rent. FEMA finally kicked down some $8600.
I was out well over 200K in material loss not including a very profitable business.
Life starts over. Live for today. Be happy. I try to remember these things
