This isn't mine but I'd thought I'd share. Just because you buy something with a forged crank doesn't mean it has a forged crank. Cast steel in this case I'm told, didn't handle a blower very well. Took out the block as well. The guy also told it was a 540 but was a stock stroke.
That looks like a forged crank to me. Can you take a better pic of the casting line? If it is a very small line like it was drawn with a pen then it is cast, if the casting line is wider (say around a quarter inch or so) then it is a forged crank.
It's just a customers engine. Not a clue what went wrong but he just traded his twin 454 boat for a blown 540 boat. The story is this happened the first time he took it to WOT.
