I'm not talking about being safer. It's just a battle for traction. it proves nothing and is hard on the drivetrain.
Definitely safer as long as the hook on the tow rope doesn't fly through a window when the rope breaks.

Even so, the only people likely to get hurt are the participants. No innocent 3rd parties maimed or dead because of someone else's Tom Foolery.

I have a buddy that always wanted to "drop chains" but he wanted to start with slack in the chain. We never did it, and a year later I helped him replaced his frame. It completely snapped in half and only the bed and the rear leaf springs were holding his ford together.

Had you actually done it, I would have pulled his truck in half!

yeah i was scared for my front diff. but i didnt build my truck to ***** foot around with it. it is how it is because i want to beat the **** out of it.
