Arizona Threatens to Shut Off Power to L.A.

Learning foreign languages is much different than the current topic, don't take it to the extreme. Funny thing is, i know many legal immigrants from mexico and they speak very good english and their children do too. Anybody can learn, its just a matter of willingness. Yes not all might be perfect, but they can learn the language, no excuses there.

I'm with you Jeteys5.3. Why should I learn another language? We speak English. I'm not going to learn a different language to speak to illegals. The only thing I need to say to illegals can be said on one finger!!! Damn Democraps!

uhhhh when was i talking about amnesty? I don't care what they learn or what they do, I'm not going to favor granting any illegal amnesty

People from ANY country that choose to come here legally to become citizens, have to take the TIME to PREPARE! They have to apply, pay fees, and pass tests to prove knowledge and desire to become a citizen. You have to PREPARE to come here legally, you can't just show up one day, walk across the border, and expect everything to be the same for you as it is for someone that did it legally. That is how I am going to expect that someone can speak and read the english language, and it's a way to ensure our country's citizens can communicate between one another.
Foreign language classes are NOT useless, anyone that wants to be able to communicate with someone that does not speak english benefits from these, as well as enhances their cultural background. These classes often times bring to light some specifics of the related ethnic background.

The government has succeeded in convincing people that more legislation/agencies = better total population = need for more tax dollars. We as a nation need to start thinking critically about everything that is proposed.

so is there really a way of becoming a legal us citizen living in mexico or another country? like maybe sitting at home waiting for your papers to arrive then they can come here? so no work visa or temp pass? what if some of these people yall are talking about are just vistors, on vacation. yall are throwing alot of people under the bus just by saying not to speak a language here. we want people to come tour the usa see the grand canyon and all the other stuff. by passing that law its just gonna discourage people to come and visit our great land. less money for us. imo. like someone said its a trickle down effect in the negative. my mom is a legal resident. not a citizen so i guess she has to go to. she works pays taxes and works for the school district.. yall are combining legal residents with illegals. and yall dont even know it.

While he doesnt agree with portions of it, he is still anti amnesty and pro strengthening our boarders. You cite his stance on AZ's law like he is for amnesty. If he ever came out and said that he knows with the extreme Republican bias in Texas that he would be out of office so quick it wouldnt be funny.
You keep saying repulifuck, but what has your dems done for us lately? Put us in the deepest debt we've ever been in, to the tune of 42K per person in the US. Re-friggin-donkulous, spend, spend, spend, and have nothing to show for it. The dems are going to be a distant memory soon in the chambers of Congress and the Whitehouse and people like you should be afraid for your ideals because they dont work, thats what has gotten our country in the state its in.

Visitors:
They come in with a passport, they are allowed to be here for a limited time before they have to leave.
Workers:
They can get a work Visa and be here for up to 6months if I remember right.
Immigrants:
They apply for citizenship and go through all the motions and get their green card. So yes, they sit at home until they get their card and are an official citizen.
There are other ways too but I dont feel like researching it all for you since it seems you have no want/need to do any research yourself on stuff that is answered by a simple google search.

As silverbirch said, Permanent Residency and Citizenship are two different things. Permanent Residents ARE legal residents of the United States, just not Full Fledged Citizens. So no, your mom doesn't have to go.
The trickle down effect in the negative to which you refer is NEGATIVE on those that are here legally, created by illegal activities.
