This, among most everything else in the article, amazes me.

Doesn't sound right to me but I'm also not taking account the different stoich requirements of the different fuels.
Nitro has a lot more energy per unit than av. gas.

We're basically saying the same thing here. I just still find it hard to believe that there's such a big difference. I think that statement is a little misleading IMO. Also need to take into account the efficiency of both power plants and it's still a ridiculous difference that I find it hard to wrap my head around.

OK how bout this nitro carries around 2.3 times the energy jet A-1 does.
That means if a 747 operated at 100% efficiency then a top fuel dragster would be around 43% efficiency to harness the same energy level for a given amount of fuel.

Remember nitro brings some of its own oxygen to the party!

The quote states 25% less energy being produced, not power. That's where I got screwed up. I need to do a better job of reading.
From what I know top fuel dragster engines are extremely inefficient, so yeah they make a lot of power but they lose much more. I thought they were saying that a top fuel engine makes more power than a 747 consuming the same quantity of fuel.

Top fuels are wicked AWESOME to watch. My buddy races top dragster (one step down) and those things are a blast to run. 1K dollar passes if nothing breaks. New rings, plugs and a quick head inspection between each run, both for engine and driver
