Default Thoughts about lifting...

...a 2wd. Specifically, my truck. I'm looking for thoughts and opinions on about a 2" or 4" lift. Suspension, not body. Just a thought.

I know Fabtech has a 2wd suspension lift for my truck; anyone know of others?

if its for looks, i dont really care for it.

if its for function, as in you work construction or the like and need a little extra ground clearance and some nice sized all terrains ( 31"+), go for it.

that much is pointless in my opinion. I ran a 5" kit on my truck and it was like driving a stock z71 around. I would do at least a 7" suspension+3" body lift or leave it stock.

x2. 4" doesnt go very far on these trucks, dunno that id do the body just cause the gas tank will be exposed since they decided to put them on the outside of the frame on these trucks but id do atleast 7".

another thing to consider if you can get ahold of some 4wd parts, the conversions on these arent that hard.

i just got done tearing off the xmember, trans & transfercase from my 4wd chassis to make my 2wd 85' (similar to yours) 4wd. i plan to take lots of pics... maybe ill do a write up too

I have a CST 4" spindle lift on my truck with aftermarket coilovers which are cranked to provide another 3" of lift.

Lift it, and don't look back!

I figured that it shouldn't be that hard since they are so similar, but I've heard mixed opinions. Please keep me posted on how things go.

well me and my buddy were looking it over... its certainly not cake but if you have alot of spare parts for these trucks like i do its certainly manageable.

xmembers are different, clearly the 2wd spring pockets and what not would have to come out. there is already holes drilled for the front mounting for the front springs... only thing you have to drill is for the rear mounting of the front spring for the shackles. have gotten any further than that, steering box and what not will all be swapped over from the 4wd truck if need be... ill certainly keep you posted and jot down as much info for you as i can

its on 73-87 body style... they already had SFA, other than mines 2WD so it shouldnt be that hard. i got the 4wd chassis down just gotta get the cab and front clip off... then im gonna start yankin **** we think we need to make the 2WD into 4WD. i got a 4" lift for it that my buddy gave me with all the shocks and everything. id like to have it done by the end of winter but well see lol... you know how that **** goes
