well, the good Lord done gived my wife some fantastic birthday weekend weather, so we went shooting & driving through the hills again
according to some lady that started whistling/hollering at us from her yard on the next hill over (a good couple hundred yards away), 'twas *allegedly* a "non-motorized" trail (that we only found by following well-worn tire tracks from the road) - whatever
got some good use of low range to climb & descend a couple grades without smoking the clutch
nice - looks like a fun play spot to go rip-roarin through

unfortunately just the standard.
already took us 3 months & a 28hr drive to find an '08+ stick-shift that wasn't ragged or rusted out. trying to hold out for an Adventure wasn't panning out as good as we'd hoped.
well, at least not until a week after we bought this one. that's when a stick 2010 Adv with 20k less miles popped up in FL. and the 09-10s also had dual lockers instead of just the rear.
and i was thinkin' about your 'hoe today
started contemplating the feasibility of slappin' a yukon body on an H2 frame & running gear. gets you the best of it all: AWD, factory 4.10s, HD frame & axles... and the GMC's good looks - all without the extra size of a 2500 suburban
The frame isn't much special. Everything about it, you can do with a competent welder and some fab work.
I looked into this probably 7yrs ago, and the consensus was that you have to shorten the frame to match the Yukon/Tahoe wheel base, and the body mounts aren't close to lining up at all: allegedly
and since they still come with 60/65e's until 08/09, extra not worth the effort. Axle swap a Yukon/Tahoe and call it a day imo (also what I did)
For folks that haven’t seen my build thread. Trip out last week was a blast. Did some damage to. Motor mounts blew which dropped the fuel pump on the frame and cracked it, passenger header got some love from the driveshaft, and the other guy I was wheeling with blew the ball out of his front CV joint. Did it while showing up a Jeep that was complaining about it being to dusty and him not getting enough traction to go up even with a rear locker. I went up and down it and then drove home haha. Gears and lockers on Monday!!
Got hardcore last night discovered that the S in Nitto 420S tires doesn't mean sand rated. Was attempting to be a good person and pull an amazon driver out of my local road of sandy doom. I figured I could get close enough with the winch Id yank them out but it got softer much quicker than I expected and despite a plethora of clutch dumps in various different gears I was unsuccessful.
The good news is the G80 did its job and I dug 2 holes.
