Default Custom tune and towing

I'm getting a custom tune done by Westers garage. I chose them because there's one about an hour away from where I live.

I drive my truck 98% as a daily driver. The other 2% is towing A fifth wheel trailer and boat, combined wait about 10,000 pounds.

My question is about torque management. How much torque management should I reduce? I was thinking about 80%. I was also considering making my tow haul Mode a high-performance button.

If I drive my truck and trailers , In regular mode with 80% of the torque management reduced, do you think that would be OK for my truck and transmission? Or should I leave my tow haul mode fairly stock? Still with some torque management reduced.

Any ideas would be appreciated

Maybe too late but remove all TM. Let your foot do the deciding how much power you want, not the computer.

Thats honestly horrible advise, like it really is.

OP did not say what kind of truck he owns and what transmission it has, but if it's a 6L80e you will not want to remove much of it. It will bang gears like a bitch, buck and not work right. It's 150% different than a 4L60e or 4L80e when it comes to tuning.

Also a half ton pulling 10,000lbs is just asking for the trans to give up on life. They are only rated to pull like 9500 and thats maxxed out. It would be so hard on the truck and scary if you ask me.

I found 10,500lbs for that year, but add fuel, cargo, passengers and you are overweight already. But thats not the point of this threads, though I feel sorry for the truck pulling that.

Reduce TM by 25% on trans side. Upline pressure a bit up shift points a bit
Any good tuner knows what to do from there on engine side tuning and TM tweaks. Your next best move needs to put a sonnax servo and goodies in it to help keep it alive. I'd change oil on the trans before your trip. If you have a aftermarket air intake the single most important thing is having the MAF calibrated correctly because it will smoke a tranny and cause problems if it's not. It skews the required torque signal and wreaks havoc on line pressures.

Most guys on here drive like dipshits and give the 4L series OD's a bad rap. Make a few mods drive it sanely and they will live a long healthy life. Ive changed my fair share of them they aren't perfect but they aren't a piece of **** either. Stocker gave up in my 99 sub 2 mos ago at 165K. We have a customer that has a 140" stretch H2 Hummer with a stock tranny and 135K on it and they beat pee whiney dog **** out of it and it's still alive somehow for now.

Max payload is of the complete vehicle fully loaded fuel passengers trailer and payload. Can you go over it sure people do it all the time. But vehicle and it's powertrain and brakes are designed for that max number at the outside. You need a 3/4 ton with powertrain set up for handling heavy loads safely with room to spare.

I put in the Corvette servo last week. Made a big difference in the shifting.

I did do the breaks, best rotors and pads available. The truck is lots of stopping power. Never had a problem. But my trailer brakes are set up very good too.

I've been speaking with BlackBear performance. They say they reduce torque management completely.

I'm looking at getting a custom tune done from them. As well as a economy tune and a performance tune. I'm looking at buying the AutoCal system

BB tunes are well worth the money. Make sure you tell them about the corvette servo before the tune. That way they won't increase the pump pressure too much. A combination of too much pump pressure and a corvette servo could make for a heck of a hard shift.
