Sell it private party. Then buy one private party. 4wd is a $2800 option new. ECSB is about $1000 i think. So probably about $2000 + tax on total vehicle price to upgrade if you take your time.

Unless you're gonna do some really heavy offroading, you really don't have to have a 4x4. I have an '06 ext. cab silverado 2wd with a 2" lift in the front on 265/70/17 BFG all-terrain ko's and it will go anywhere I've tried to put it. Of course, I'm not going to take my nice expensive truck and bury it in mud. Unless you want to go thru swamps and stuff, just put on a small lift and a more aggressive tire.

Dude you can by a 4x4 that runs well for $2000 or less. I mena it wont be show room or anything, but you can pick up an old 80's model K5 or Scottsdale, those are some of the best offroad vehicles ever. They are super easy to work on and mod, especially since they already have sratight axle suspension. This way you can have your toy, and a street truck, overall for about the same amount of money.

He's already got a nice truck and he's asking about hacking it up into a 4x4. Why would he ruin his nice, expensive truck offroad?

I suggested that he take the money he would have used to RUIN his truck, and buy an old 4x4 instead, for a fun truck.

Just cause you have a 4x4 doesn't mean you're gonna ruin it. Mine was very nice till the first little mishap when my boat passed me up. Since then Ive bashed it up a bit, but thats just me.

If you want a 4x4 for real off roading, then I say do a Solid axle. if you just need (or want) 4wd to play with a little, or go down some slick roads etc. you'd be cheaper getting rid of yours and buying a 4x4.
