I learned today that in order to get a Tx drivers license, I need to get Texas plates and registration for truck. This means I am going to need to pass a vehicle inspection. I am from florida and I have never had a vehicle inspection before. Do they use a sniffer in Houston or do they just plug into the OBD and check for codes?

They are supposed to do a visual inspection but I have never had them do one on my truck. They usually just plug into the OBDII and check safety equipment such as horn, brake lights, etc.
I have also heard from several people that some shops will pass you as long as your check engine light is not on. Maybe you can find one of those shops down there......

Thanks for the "Frozen boost" think.
I try to stay with pre-1975 vehicles, but If I was going to run something new I would probably look into those.
When I was growing up we had a product called "test tubes". Test tubes didn't even try to fake it. just a custom formed piece of exhaust pipe + connectors. Unbolt your old "field fire starter", and bolt in your test tube. direct replacement. Memories.
