They're not too bad. Sometimes they can be pretty hard, but I think the stall is the only thing saving my back

Will going vac modulated make it shift alot softer at part throttle?

ya, it should. When I first bought my truck it didn't have one and the trans was setup the same way as yours. It would bark the tires just cruising around in parking lots. Put the modulator on and now part throttle shifts feel almost stock.
