it will work with stock heads yes, plenty of clearance... I ran a little bigger cam with LS6 springs and stock 5.3 heads on my original stock motor in the old truck. sounded sick... the previous owner even wrote "this thing idles sick in a 5.3" on the cam card for me... hah...
