DFW manual transmission shops
#1
Welp, as soon as I was talking up my 5-spd the other day on here and how it's taken everything I've given it and only complained just a little, I'm getting some grinding and rattling going on that hasn't been there before. So I think it's on its last leg.
Wish I could spring for the T56 swap right now, but school is continuing to cost too much, so I'd like to talk to a shop about a rebuild or what not, just to see what my options are.
Any suggestions of shops would be great. I'm in Arlington so most of the metroplex is within reach.

Gears are grinding in 5th (not as you shift but rather when just driving along in 5th) and what used to be just an input shaft whine is now associated with a rattling/clanking. The throw-out bearing has always made some noise, but this is different.
Also, when shifting in high rpm's, I used to think I had a detonation issue with the engine, but after putting in 93 octane for a couple tankfuls and still experiencing it, I think it's cause of whatever is loose in the tranny doesn't like to spin that high. It sounds like BB's in a coffee can just being shook around.
I'm gonna see if worth/possible to rebuild, if I just need to grab another 5-spd for cheap, or somehow make money appear out of no where for a 6-spd swap. I'd love to toss in a GTO T56, but they seem to go for over a grand right now when I could grab a used 5-spd for about half that price and swap it directly.
