Wire to wire in a Line-Out Adapter?

Wire to wire in a Line-Out Adapter?
I have a 2000 NBS Tahoe and I have tried wiring in a dbLink Line-Out adapter to the rear sub connection but it sounds like crap. This adapter has a Right and Left gain feature and I'm wondering if this could be presenting the problem. I had a previous 01 Tahoe and I used a different adapter without gain controls wired in the same location and it worked just fine.
Any suggestions?
