triple voice coils

Default triple voice coils

hey guys lookin into building a system for my buddy's impala & i'm checking out these new Infinity Kappa 120.9w sub's that say they have 3 voice coils....how are these wired as? i assume just treat them like DVC subs? thx

They're selectable impedance. You wire them up to a single terminal, and there is an actual switch that is marked 2 ohm or 4 ohm. They're pretty cool.

nvm i get it now...lol my bad...have you heard these in play yet? i'm assuming they're more SQ subs than SPL correct?

Does it cut off part of the coil..?

I understand making it easier for people to do their own installs... but after some of the installs I've seen done by your average Joe... I'd rather not have every Tom, Dick, or Harry installing their own stuff. All it does is keep the fire department busy. I don't know how many people I've seen run no fuses, or fuses less than a foot from the amp, wires spliced by twist and tape method. Using different size wires for ground and power... it's ugly out there.

You must know or live near some really stupid people then. Don't really see that much around here, and I know plenty of people who have installed their own stuff in my area, including myself.

I don't doubt that, there are a lot of dumb kids around here that don't understand how it works, just that it works, or realize how disasterous it can be if not done right.

I don't know how many "installs" have been brought to me because something doesn't work on them, and I end up tearing out all the wiring and redoing it because there's nothing that can be salvaged.
