Default Trans temp sensor compatability

Just bought a gauge cluster with trans temp in it and I want to try to get it to work with the NV4500. The NV4500 does not come with a trans temp sensor of any kind but it should be fairly easy to add since the NV4500 has a PTO port on each side and there are PTO coolers available that space the cover out a few inches and one even comes tapped with a sight glass. My plan was to buy a PTO cooler, weld a bung to the cover with the correct threads for a sensor and plug it in like normal, the problem is I'm not sure what sensors will work. I see a factory 2500, 6.0 trans temp sensor that looks like this first picture. Clearly there are no direct threads and instead, the sensor plugs in and is sealed with an O-ring and held in place by a mounting bolt. I'm not sure how I would be able to adapt that to fit directly into a PTO cover as shown in the second picture.

Does anyone know of another sensor that could be plug and play? Or is the trans temp gauge simply looking for a 1-5v signal and maybe a universal sensor like this would work?

Can't seem to even find a trans temp sensor on GMpartsdirect, on the 4l60/80s were they internal or something? I have nearly no experience with autos.

4L60 has it internal, part of the trans control harness

Knowing GM all the thermistors are the same value, so you are in luck there

Also knowing GM the 2500 sensor will not mate to the wiring that your truck may still have

I also do not know if in the GMT800s the pcm takes that info and sends it to the cluster, or if it is CAN-bussed to the cluster from the trans

If you had a good machinist on call, he could prob machine you a bung. Maybe even weld it on too

I found some data on the resistance values and it looks very similar or exactly the same so I think your right an ECT sensor should work. SImply gotta grab the 2 wires from the trans harness and make a pigtail. I'll test everything in a bowl of hot water and verify with an IR gun.

I will just buy a PTO cooler and use the 1/4npt drain plug port or get an adapter to mate up to the ECT. No custom machining is required.

if the wires are available on the chassis side, an ECT is the easiest. I agree

Pretty sure the trans harness is just shoved under the hydro-boost master. I've pumped I've been wanting to do this since I melted the NV3500 in my RCSB, just curious to see temp differences when towing in OD vs 4th.

I dropped a cluster in my GMT800 years ago with a trans temp gauge and it works with no problem. The PCM in an '04 at least, has it programed in.
