The restriction in the factory stereo system is the power produced by the head unit, not the speakers. You'll get much better sound out of a high powered head unit or external amplifier on stock speakers than you will get out of nice aftermarket speakers on a stock HU.

An amp would help. I have some alpine components in my front doors with an alpine amp and the stock head unit. I also have a kenwood amp and some old pioneer truck rider boxes (don't laugh they were free) under the rear seat. It sounds worlds better than stock. Sounded pretty good even before I hooked up the Pioneers.

Use a Re-q unit from MTX they are the best things going right now for hooking up to a stock deck

i think you just splice into speaker wires.
you can buy it from like an electronics store like circuit city, best buy, or a stereo shop

I wonder if I should go ahead and get that re-q unit.. or just rig up a sub.

I already got a 500Watt amp sitting in my truck and I got a buddy who is selling a 12 for like 50$...

I think I might just go ahead and hook up the subs..

The man speaks the truth. I am running diamond audio d6's and i paid $150 less than what they go for new through ebay. They haven't given me trouble in 2 years.
