Default Simple question about replacing door speaker

To whoever has replaced the main 6.5" door speaker before (03-07 body style):

Did you try to remove the plastic piece around the stock speaker that clips it in to the door, or just drill mounting holes in the door and use self tapping screws or something to install? It seems like the plastic peice is glued on to the speaker pretty good, dont want to break anything trying to get it off.

Thanks

Yes, you can mount directly to the metal with self tapping.

I went ahead and made a small MDF panel for better sealing.
