a yellow top is a deep cycle battery it is meant to be drained and charged again without shortening the life of it . it will hold its charge shorter after time btu thats somethign like 250 charge cycles. i red top is more of a stock battery replacemtn . imo ive been happy with the yellow tops i have in all my cars. i had one sit for almost 3 months and still cranked up my car. but if your worried about voltage and spikes with electronics. you neew to do more upgrading than just a battery. you need a better alternator. and imo the big 3( ground cable, poisitive cable and alternator cable.

OPTIMA RedTop Benefits
* Lasts up to 2 times longer than other batteries.
* More power in the initial 1, 3, 5, and 10 seconds of the starting process than comparably rated conventional lead acid batteries.
* Constant performance quality keeping your battery running at the same level even as it's being discharged.
* Ideal for seasonal use, fully charged, it can sit unused for up to 12 months at room temperature (or below) and still start a car.
* 15 times more resistant to vibration than other batteries.
* Nonspillable and can mount in almost any position.
Remember:
A dark gray case means starting technology, a light gray case means dual purpose (engine start and deep cycle) technology. (that means there are two types of yellow tops I've had both)cant go wrong with the dual.

Yesterday I replaced the red top with a yellow top. The red top was only 18 months old, but if not driven for 9 or 10 hours it would not start
. so they pro-rated it and I got the yellow top for $88.00.
apparantly they can not do a charge/Load test on optima batteries becase they are meant to be slow charged. No questions asked. I think all the kids that worked there (Advance) wanted it for themselves.
