IMO shallow sub=shallow sound

a DD1508 is only 5.5" deep, if you mount it low in the box, instead of centered life most prefab boxes, you can keep the seat all the way back and not contact anything.

but if shallow subs have enough thump for you it makes things easier. I like violent amounts of bass, and after seeing 2 DD1508s tear a 4dr Civic apart, I think they should be just fine in a RCSB. Plus I like the idea of telling people its "just a couple 8s" then flexing the body and windows

That more than likely comes from dealing with poorly designed shallow mount subs. In a properly designed enclosure, a good quality shallow mount sub is nearly indistinguishable from a normal sub.

I've heard JLs TW 13.5 sub, in a JL built box, on a 1000/1

My 2 memphis PR 10s in a downfire box on a sony 1000w amp from walmart sounded 50x better. If I hadn't sold the setup, the other guy wanted to straight up trade his stuff, plus cash for mine.

That is cool. I didn't think about that option when doing mine.

EDIT: not trying to start any arguments, just saying don't discount shallow mount subs in a standard cab. Yes a normal sub would be a better option with all else held constant, but due to space constraints, shallow mounts (of decent build) would be an option worth entertaining.

Unless you are tryin to go to any spl contest than the shallow subs are fine, given the room constraints. Of course if I wanted to go all out I would've went with dvc subs. They hit hard as hell. I'll get pics tomorrow to show you my setup. Also I don't have to have the seat up or anything. I have all the way pushed back but since I'm short I really don't want it that far back with my tip toes hit the brakes and gas. Lol, so get what you like as well, I'll try to get a vid also.

I have a kicker solo classic 10". Its mounted in a custom box that fits the sub behind the fold down center console. I went with this setup cause in a sealed box I think it calls for .66 cubic feet. Not the most powerful, but sounds pretty decent for small investment.

Just my personal experience/opinions...

If a regular sub fits...why go shallow?
Shallows cost more.
Shallows move less.
Shallows need SAME airspace (in most cases)

The bass, which is meant to be a deeper note, isnt very deep. I personally see no reason to EVER purchase a shallow sub...especially in a truck. RC, EC, or CC.

Now, if you dont care about the bass (why bother anyway?) then sure, go shallow. 99% of ppl think because its shallow, it takes less air space, so they make a small box, and in the end, they want more.

See the pics of the guy's RC and he has an EC downfire box behind the seat? He doesnt need shallows. And I bet those sound better than the TW5s, and they are a FRACTION of the cost and are much more effecient.

You guys all act like it takes a thousand man hours and the touch of God to make a custom box for a regular cab. Probox, along with a million others make pre-fab boxes for regular cabs. The boxes hold full-size subs, provide enough mounting depth and airspace, and sound just fine. I've got one 12" in a full-lenth, ported box, and it sounds damn good for a regular cab. There's really no need for the inverted extended-cab box or anything custom. Just.fcking.saying.

Disclaimer: Everyone is a know-it-all over the internet--not here to argue, not here to boo hoo. Simple facts; doesn't take an expert, birthed in a speaker box, to realize what I just said.

True about regular subs. But when I had some Fosgate p3d2 subs the excursion on them were rediculous. Sounded better when I would lean both seats forward. I'm no expert but when you hear and feel a difference is why counts. I think the setup I have now is better than the p3d2's. IMO. Can't say for all. No matter what you need airspace. If your trying to get that most bang for te buck I would go with 1 12 in a full length box that is custom tuned for your application. Do some research on tuning boxes it isn't that hard. I would like to get one but do not have the time right now. And would rather spend them money on performance parts.
