lol theres a wire in most aftermarket stereos that control "illumination" somebody wired it in. I believe its an orange wire and says "illumination". Take the cd player back out and find it, then cut it.

i think you got confused!!! im am not using a new harness. i didnt install a new stereo. i had an aftermarket stereo in there with and aftermarket plug-n-play wireing harness but i took them both out. the stereo i put back in the truck is the stock one. all i have to do is plug it in and it should work without me haveing to cut any wires.

Its a fuse

My 89 S10 blazer would do that. Just check all your fuses.
On mine it would also kill everything if you honked the horn. I don't remember if it was a bus fuse or a box If you don't see any thing blown, just take it in to the dealer. they should be able to tell you which fuse it is.

Unless there is just a faulty install on the alarm by a previous owner. something coulda gone bare.

The exact scenario is that when you would open the door pretty much all the accessories would die and you couldn't honk the horn. If you shut the door they would all come back on and if you tried to honk the horn it would kill them again.

You may want to double check all the wires tho just in case. My wiring eventually gave out. If i start it up now it says the highs and both blinkers are on, until i turn on the lights, then the entire dash shuts down. But that could have been cause from when I wired my Fans thru the fuse box. I think it got too hot and melted the backside of the box.

If you have fuses that constantly go out, its because there is something wrong with the wiring. Fuses are the middle man between the electronics and the power source, making sure **** doesn't hit the fan an short circuit your equipment. If you have a fuse that pops constantly its because you either have faulty equipment or bad wiring.

GTO in your case the head unit could be messed up, and there could be something internally wrong in it. I actually have a stock radio/cd player out of my 2001 sierra if you found that to be a problem I could sell to you.....from experience I have found when you start having problems with something on your truck after you recently have been upgrading/downgrading your equipment things can happen. Just check it out, maybe try hook the after market radio back up for awhile.
