Exclamation Install a 2 1/16" temp Gauge in 2000 IP?

I'm debating, with hopes that someone has done this successfully, as to whether or not I can install an Autometer electric 2 1/16" trans temp gauge in the lower left corner of the IP. The location now in my truck is simply a "circle" that would be occupied by a factory installed trans. temp. gauge had it been optioned with one from the factory.

My plan would be to disassemble the IP, neatly bore the hole and install the gauge inside the IP behind the plastic face plate.

I searched this till blue in the face with no definitive results.

Any reason why this can't be done? Clearance issues?

I'd appreciate any feedback / advice from anyone who knows. I have a Autometer, 2 5/8" mechanical NIB I was going to use and then it occurred to me that the bottom left corner, (where the factory installs their's), is available for the smaller 2 1/16" gauge.

Thanks! V1

There's a circuit board back there even though a gauge isn't present. I haven't taken one apart, but I would bet dollars to donuts that it still has some necessary leads there that I wouldn't go drilling through.

There are several threads on here where guys have put trans temp and boost gauges there.

Here is the latest one about a boost gauge install in that location:

Interesting, Glad someone corrected me, I would have sworn up and down you couldn't have done it. IT actually looks decently cool.
