But with a box like what you posted just with the subs facing towards the front they still would starved with two eights?

Those subs in that box face downwards, hence why I put "down-firing box". You put the subs in, turn the box facing down. The middle section goes over the "hump" in the floor. Why are you wanting full-size subs v.s. shallows? I see no point in even going 8" full-size sub, versus any thin 10". Any specific reason?

No there is no reason, just asking to help better my knowledge.

What are some good thin subs that aren't crazy expensive?

If you're not an audiophile and just looking for an entry-level setup, Kicker CVT's. $89 a piece, simple SVC design, and they do fairly well in small boxes.

Well let me put it this way I'm looking to have the cheapest set up I can put together, but I also don't want 5,000$ in a system either.

How would the Alpine thin type R's do?

Cheap really means..."A system that will turn out expensive, because it will sound like **** to begin with and I'll waste money periodically replacing broke components."

So, no, cheap is a bad idea. Buy one piece at a time and do it right the first time. If you can't afford to do it right, how can you afford to do it twice?

You putting this in yourself? You just want subs? Don't let what audio shops charge fool you. You can get a full, passive system for under $900, EASY. It will sound decent, and you'll be satisfied. What all do you need? Alpine R's, NO. Alpine PDX amps or H.U.'s, yes. Alpine type R's are $500 for a pair, and a huge waste. CVT's. I'll harp on it. Under $200 for a pair. Put them in the box above, get a good amp.

Trust I understand exactly what you mean.

Yes I plan to do this myself, and I plan on doing the whole shebang.

04 2500 HD

H.U I would like to have a nice double din with navigation.

Budget, I have no honest clue what a full "nice" set up typically runs but I guess 1,500-2,000$.

Scratch the double din, I don't its worth the extra cost when I got a Garmin. I'd be more than happy with a nice single din.
