Default Help w sub size for rcsb

Have most parts already, truck is an '06 rcsb 1500

H.U. Pioneer 2400BT
Amp. Alpine PDXV9 5 channel
Speakers: Focal polyglass 165 2 way components

Need help picking a sub, from what I've read JL has great subs so I'm leaning that way with their w3v3 stuff.

I want a single sub, which size would you recommend? 8"? 10"? 12"?

I don't need hard hitting bass, certainly I don't want the mirrors/interior vibrating all over the place. I'm after sound quality as I don't listen my music too loud.

I think you'd be really happy with one 10w3v3 in a sealed box. I had 2 10w3v3's in my crew cab and loved them.

Thanks for mentioning the box issue, tried a search on it and looks like it gives better sound quality than ported.

Yes sealed will have a cleaner tighter bass than a ported enclosure will. For the amount of bass you described you wanted, the 1 10w3v3 should be plenty for what it sounds like you want and will give a nice clean sound when set correctly with the rest of your stereo

Personally, all things being equal, I suggest a 12W3 instead of a 10W3. There's something to be said for a lower resonate freq. and it will have better output than the 10 (again, all things being equal) and you can tune it a little easier I think. It won't have to work as hard to hit the lower freqs and if you play with your x-over points a bit the mids will compliment a larger woofer very well.

You're gonna love those Focal speakers btw.

In my own truck I run a single set of Hertz HSK165XL's on an active crossover network and a pair of 12" Hertz HX300 subs in a ported enclosure. Bass is plentiful and very tight. I can float a bottle in my window or compete in MECA and IASCA sound quality competitions. It all comes down to tuning. I have 4 sets of tuning parameters programmed into my BitOne processor so I can go from blowing eardrums, to reproducing a front row seat at an Eric Clapton show. Having an independent sub level control will also help you transition between genres and you won't feel like you're missing some of the super low freqs. you find in hip hop, techno (which is pretty much anything in the top100 now days...) and even some country believe it or not.
