ok, im in a 2003 regular cab, i have my subs done now the way i want them, now i need to upgrade my head unit and my 4x6's, any suggestions without breaking the bank?

^^agreed, you want your vocals to come from in front of you not beside your head. Just get a quality set of components for the front doors and leave the 4x6's disconnected.
Also, in reference to your other thread the bose speakers are 8 ohm so trying to run them on a radio that does 7-10 watts at 4ohm was getting them next to nothing on power and that is why they probably didnt sound that impressive.

buy yourself a set of infinity kappa series 4x6 you wont regret it a 4 channel kicker amp as for a head unit i would go with a kenwood alpine or pioneer you will be around spending $500 for the 3 depends on were you buy them.....

All you need to know about pre amp voltage is the higher it is the cleaner the signal to your amp which in turn makes it sound cleaner. Therefore for people that are going to run aftermarket amps, the higher the pre amp voltage the better, especially when running an amp for door speakers.
As for which 6.5's to get there are quite a few to choose from. Are you wanting coax or components? Do you like harsh/piercing highs or smooth subtle highs? Do you want lots of midbass or not much? And finally how much power and what amp do you plan to run them on? These questions will help narrow down the choices.
