Guys,
In case you run into it.
I added amp and speakers to the factory headunit in my truck. The factory H/U does not have a 12V remote to turn on the amp. I temporarily ran 12V to the amp remote from a swithced 12V source in the fusebox. Problem was that I lost a couple of features on the truck. When I turned the key off the amp turned off and I didn't have the stereo until the door opened like it was before. I also lost the chimes for key in ignition and lights on etc... I have a bad habit of leaving headlights on.
The fix is a DIRECTED 55000 Remote Power Adapter. It senses a low voltage signal, down to about 5V and provides a 12V output. I wired it to sense the output from one channel of the speakers from the H/U. Small, cheap, easy to wire up and works perfectly in my application. Its firing up 2 amps. The stereo works just like factory now.
Later.
