I like it a lot, I never have to touch the iPod. You can browse through playlists, watch videos, change play modes, etc etc.

You could do a carputer. in the lines of a say 120 gb hard drive and what not and get a touch screen for controls but i have weighed the options as well and just getting a double din is a more sensible idea in the way of it does everything you want out of the box and you can get warranty support. plus easier to control audio and all those functions unless your going through a head unit from the computer.

In the lines of a double din with navi I would go pioneer or kenwood for quality and features. you can control ipod directly through either one very easily. and most i have seen that have usb or an ipod cable will use an digital to analog audio converter to get better audio quality.

Sounds like I need to just dig up another ipod then start looking for a better double din interface.

*sigh*.....I was not looking forward to dumping more money on an ipod but oh well....thanks guys

That was my 1st mobile pc setup, 4 or 5 years back. I am about to start another one. I'll never have an MP3 player hooked to my head unit. This was much better, easier to see, easier to navigate, and easier to expand.

And not to mention, cheaper. Navigation, MP3 playback, Audible visualization, in vehicle diagnostic read outs, DVD playback, dvd record, mobile email, download maps and/or directions, AND download music or movies.

Show me 1 deck, and 1 mp3 player that can do that for under $600.

NICE! What was the setup (hardware/OS/etc)?

From what I have searched, it seems like you just run a version of windows (XP, Vista, etc) and then use winamp/vlc/whatever for playback.
