Blown speakers
#1
I need some new speakers the factory ones sound like someones eating rice crispy treats in the background. What size are the stock speakers front and back for an 02' GMC and what would you guys recommend?

The doors are 6 3/4 (6 1/2 also works), and the B-pillars are 4x6's. As far as recommendations, I have Rockford Fosgates in the doors (6 1/2), and Pioneer's in the B-pillars. They sound decent I guess...I would have rather gotten some nice Polk's or Infinity's, but I tend to concentrate most of my cash under the hood
....edit....not sure what's in your rear doors, mine's a regular cab....

How much do you want to spend? The backs are 4x6. I cut the hole alittle bigger and put in MB Quart 5 1/4 reference seres with the bridge 1/2 tweeter. The front MB 6 1/2 component's with 3/4 tweeter. If you don';t want to spend to much look at MB lower end Discus or Infinity

I have JL Audio XR650CSi components up front and Infinity Reference 4x6 in the back. If you are running them off your stock deck then it doesn't matter all that much what you get. The big sound quality increase comes when you run an external amp your speakers. You could amp factory speakers and they would sound tons better....but who would want to do that.
If you're planning on running the speakers off the stock head unit then I would definitely not spend a lot of money because you won't hear much difference. Get a decent brand, but get one of their base models IMO.

Aye, what Thunder said..
Expensive speakers like the ones he is running SHOULD NEVER be run off deck power. So like he stated, if you're using deck power then don't get an expensive speaker. Anything under $180 will be fine. Just go and listen to a bunch and get a feel for which one sounds good to YOU. Not to the salesman or to some guy 1500miles away on a car forum.
Speakers are like women. Everyone has a different taste in what qualities they are looking for. Cool thing is when a speaker breaks you can just through it away. No expensive counseling or divorce paperwork.

I should add that to protect them from future abuse you should either:
#1 Get a new deck with High Pass XOVERs built in.
#2 Get a good amplifier (30w-75w x4)
#3 Add passive XOVERs
All of these options will help to filter out low bass frequencies and help you from killing the new speakers. It will also allow you to gain more overall volume. Just don't go adding +6 bass from the deck as this will almost defeat the whole purpose. LOL
