I guess we have to agree to disagree, I've seen used many 8's in competition vehicles as well as my team, and they have a place in sub lineups or manufactures wouldn't build them.
Sure, if you have a 2.0 cuft box, sure i'd put a 12" in it, but I'm talking about not having the space readily available.
2 12's will have a Sd of 226.19 and four 8's about 201.08, but add in you have 4 coils and 4 motor structures to cool the coil in the gap.

Now, given ample room, and same power the larger Sd will have more output, and I agree. but all I am saying is 8's play a place in good systems, with space restrictions are limited.

Ya but how much are those 8s that you use in competitions

These are the only 8s (that I'm familiar with) that I would ever use, but they're too much money IMO.

my team all ran Kicker equipment, as that's whom I work for. Most used L5 and L7 8's in USACi and Crazy 8's.

I'm running the same setup, downfiring under the back seat at 600 watts. They're RF P3 shallows. Been running heavily for 2.5 years now, and still sound like the day I put them in. What speakers are you running?

Default Man nobody like 8s.

Im Just going off of my experience. Let me list my friends stereos that they agree mine is louder than. 2 ten inch cvx subs 1000rms 2 cubes sealed in extra cab chevy. 2 kicker cvr (dont know the wattage) in single cab chevy. 2 twelve in cerwin vegas 3 cubes ported 800 rms. last but not least 2 re audio se 12s in an extra cab with 1200rms going to them. If a had room i would have 4 tens or twelve but i dont so i have 4 8s and when it was working it made alot of tens and twelves look pretty bad.

Louder at what frequencys? I highly highly doubt yours would beat any of those at the lower notes. I can see how they might hit the higher lows decently as thats quite a bit of power (1200 rms) but I don't think they're capable of producing the low lows like a 12" can. Maybe your friends just have shitty boxes or they aren't tuned correctly.

Default mtx

It was just overall louder. before i had my current box made the subs we just in an up firing sealed box and they did not get low at all untill i got the new box. In my first post if you go to the website that is listed then click enter my truck id half way down in the middle of the page. I never really liked 8s and i still have a hard time with the concept but it works for me neways. I gues im going with the mtxs because a shop in town is selling all four of them to me for $300. the cheapest you can find them online is $110 for one so thats not too bad.I do not like mtx but the subs look pretty solid and he let me hear a truck he put 3 subs in and it sounded pretty darn good. We shall see how long they last. they will be here tuesday.

Has anybody mentioned the new Sundown SA-8's?? I just picked up a pair of them and they are beasts! Jacob put 2 in a fart box off a saz-2000d and did a 152-153, pretty impressive for 2 8's if you ask me. They seem to compare nicely to the dd 1508's and they are not as expensive.
