You know, every person (male or female), I've talked to from Texas has had what I call a southern/yankee hybrid accent. Some southern but much of a Ohio-Virginia-Maryland hybrid. What I call southern is most of the Carolinas-GA, TN, MS, AL, and most of KY and AK...as far as accents though. Florida is such a melting pot that it is widespread but mostly yankee from the retirees moving from yankee land.
Of course much of MS is a creole-southern mix known as a coon-*** that no-one claims.

Gotta agree with TurboGibbs. I'll take a "real" southern accent any day of the week over a Texas hick accent, and I'm from Texas.
