about 98% of the peoplpe that work at those places, no absolutly nothing about Engine parts..
If it's not in the computer, They dont know anything to help you out.
I almost caused one kid to go nuts, because I asked for a 145A alternator for a cadilac.
told him I wanted to swap my rinky dink 125A for that one..
He preceaded to argue it wouldnt work.. that those where specifically for the cadilacs, and would not work for my 4.8L Gm engine..
after I reminded him that I was the one purchasing the alternator, and that if it didnt work, It would be me out of the money, and not him, he went to the back and got me one.. and then after I payed, he told me "Good Luck, I hope you make it work.."

LOL I went home unbolted the stocker, and bolted the 145A right up..
took about 10Minutes..

poor guys are lost up there.

It just all about finding the right person to deal with at the parts store.

when i was in Ag back in high school we would send the freshman to the parts store to get some wire for the wood welder and then when they are done with that to go to the wood shop at the other end of the school to get the wood welder.

Most of the guys around here are amazed that I know which isle the part I'm looking for is on

The guys at O'Reilly's know me almost by name. They know my truck and usually follow me outside to watch/hear me leave when I have the cutouts open.

Every now and tehn you run into one that knows a little. Think of it though. If they knew enough to be a good parts guy, chances are they would be working as a mechanic making a **** load more $$$$.

I love giving them hell buying stuff for a 1/2 ton with a 6.0 that they didnt make in 2000, "the half ton didnt have the 6.0 till '01"

One night I was in the mood and fucked with the dude over engine size, and I was looking for something totally unrelated like brake pads or something. went on and on for about 15 minuites "well sir I need the engine size so I get the right pads" (me) "why they arent going in the engine, just get my ******* brakes damnit"
