Well, there have been two big problems lately.
The first was a couple weeks ago when one of the database servers freaked out. The cause was unknown but, it is working great now. When it went down all the data was moved over to an older server in the rack and things were fine until last night when a hard drive decided it was done. Now all the data is back on the original(fastest) server and the old one is or has been repaired(not sure).
That is what the outage was from last night. Some things you just can't predict and lately we have been hit with a couple of them.
Things should only get better from here on out.
Still trying to find out about the email deal.

Actually, the "old" server (server #2 of 3) is still in the rack and online, but the drive is in a failure state. That means its still spinning and for the most part I can utilize it, but there's no guarantees as to how long it'll stay working.
So, that's why the data got shuffled around again. Everything is safe, and everything has been also mirrored off-site ahead of the regular backup schedule to ensure we don't lose data if the #1 server is still flaky. Since I rebuilt it from scratch a week or two ago, its been perfectly stable (knock on wood).
I'm also initiating dialog with the hosting firm to replace all the hardware. Two drive failures and other strangeness in a relatively tight time window doesn't give me a warm fuzzy, if you know what I mean.
