Lightbulb Chat

How bout a section off to the side that allows us to chat. This way we don't have to post up a new thread in the truck forum to see who is online when we are bored.
I've seen a few sights like this back when I used booting software. It might be a nice touch if it could be managed.

It's in the new software as an option, but it does suck up a lot of bandwidth.

You could always just start a room on AIM.........

Title it "PT.net". It's real easy to setup your own chat room using AOL, which is something a lot of people have. You can do it like this.....

For "normal users"

start > run > aim:gochat?roomname=PT.net

For Trillian users

aim:gochat?roomname=PT.net&exchange=4&instance=0

OR

You can add yourself to your own buddy list and just do a buddy invite to the chat room, then type in "PT.net" in the room box and hit enter.

Pro-touring.net has one, it is only open 1 day a week I think and only for a couple of hours. I wonder why they have one and we don't???

Because they are Pro-touring.net and we are PerformanceTrucks.net. Both PT.net but, not the same.

It's been brought up in the past and there isn't gonna be a chat forum for several reasons. It would have to be moderated to some extent since it was part of PT.net. That's a lot to ask of anyone even if it is only open on a limited basis. Also might take away from some of the post on here if people started asking about their truck problems/questions on there instead of on the forum. That info would be gone in a chat instead of archived in a post. Probably other reasons I have forgot by now.

If you really want to chat with people just start a post in the lounge asking for IM program usernames. Easy to see who is on/offline to chat with in those programs.

The occasional chat thread in the lounge at 3am is not a problem AND if you're really bored get up and go do something.
