If it makes ya feel any better, when I wasn't lookin for a rearend for my Grand Prix, I could find a Grand National one that was a better factory piece. Then when I decided that a GN rear is what I wanted, suddenly they fell off the face of the earth. Took me a year of seaching papers & auto parts magazines/ publications. Go figure.

How long have u been lookin?

You know that's a very common misconception and I think the main reason is because of the G80 factory locker.

There are plenty of guys cutting 1.6x 60' times and lower on a 10bolt rear end with just a detroit true trac and maybe a rear girdle. That is A TON of stress on your truck launching that hard.

There are also guys running 40" and larger tires as well.

I would agree that the G80 is a piece of crap. I could find you literally hundreds of threads about broken G80s, but the 10 bolt itself is very strong with very little modification.

If you replace the G80, the 10b is alright, but not bulletproof by any means. I drove 130 miles to a salvage yard to get my 14b.

I am sure the 10 bolt can be built strong, but if anyone is given the opportunity to upgrade to a 14 bolt, take it......

The G80 no doubt is a POS, I broke about 15 teeth off the spider gear on mine(I have a 14 bolt) with a stock motor, bolt-ons, and a stall. Fortunately, I caught it before it grenaded taking out the entire rear. I have seen pics of G80's exploding, taking out the entire case.

A 10 bolt with a good unit, gears, a girdle will hold the power that most of us on the site will ever put out...
