Default Rst cam and mod options

I have a 2006 gmc rst that I'm wanting to swap the cam on.
It is a 4.8l and a 5 speed truck. I'm just wanting to see what my best cam, spring, and rod combo would be my best choice. Also, will I have to get a custom tune? Can you even get a standard tranny and eng combo tuned? I was told you can only tune with auto trans. can't wait to see what you guys have done and has worked the best your y'all.

Thanks!

Read thru the write up. RSTs don't really differ from any other normal truck when it comes to modding. Whoever said you can't tune a manual tranny truck should have their lips sewed together. Don't listen to another word that escapes their mouth.

the only difference in tuning the manual vs auto would be shift points/shift firmness....even in the handheld tuners you can use them on a manual vehicle...you just can't adjust those features

I have an 04 silverado RST that had 4.8 5 spd, an I got it tuned by HpTuners, I freakin loved it!!! Shaved almost 6 seconds off my 0-100, raised speed limiter and went over 130+ on highway next to a gto.. Even had a 3rd gear scratch!!

Are you dead set on keeping the 4.8? A 6.0 swap is nothing but a few more hours than a cam swap... plus you can stab a cam in the 6.0 before it's in with no headaches.

And you will be able to tune your vehicle with no problems. Trans parameters are null however, PCM/ECU is all the same.

I ran a 14.9 at just under 96 mph yesterday with the mods in my sig if you are curious about parts/combos.

I did a comp cam 212 218 in my 04 4.8 RST that I had and it ran great with the 5 speed. Had it tuned by Nelson Performance also.

Stuff in my Sig works well. Still going to pull for a 6.0 eventually.
