Made my first run down a track today but only had time for one run: 18.314 @ 93.48...3.31 60' spinning and bouncing the whole way

RED04REGENCYRST 02-26-2012 05:08 PM

Sounds like a really cold track. Were you on street tires?

kren7604 02-26-2012 09:45 PM

Hey guys im new here, I have an 04 Regency RST black with red stripes. Im getting ready to do a ls6 and t-56 swap, my motor is out of 202 z06 405hp;) plus I installed a comp cam 224/230 113lsa .581/.588 lift cam and 918 behive springs. Here in about a month im gona have a Keisler front shift conversion installed into my t-56. once that gets done im gona start my swap

i dont know much about the shifter conversion, but i dont think it will move the location forward far enough to work without modification. you might want to check on the measurements, cuz when i installed mine it didnt look like it would line up.

by the way, sounds like a nice setup, good luck with the build.

kren7604 02-26-2012 10:09 PM

thanks, from what iv read so far its only about 1.5 - 1.75 inches back from where my stock 5 spd is, it uses the secondary port on the t-56.. id like to keep my jumpseat and any bit i can get it forward helps lol

RED04REGENCYRST 02-26-2012 10:17 PM

the only question that comes to mind is, what are you going to use for a boot around the shifter if you widen the hole?

kren7604 02-26-2012 10:35 PM

I was just gona slide it back to the needed position and then add black carpet to the front where the floorboard would be showing.. heres a link to the front shift conversion im thinking about T56 Front Shift Conversion Kit | Shifters, Handles & Boots | GM Parts and Accessories | GM | Keisler Engineering, Inc | Keisler Engineering - KeislerAuto.com

RED04REGENCYRST 02-26-2012 10:41 PM

looks like a nice kit. when i did my boot, i used an fbody boot and flipped it upside down and zip tied it to the top of the shifter base.

kren7604 02-26-2012 10:51 PM

yea that could work, id like to keep it looking origanal as much i can lol. did i read u had to get a new driveshaft made to mesh with the t-56?!

RED04REGENCYRST 02-26-2012 10:55 PM

yeah. due to the shaft needing to be shorter and stronger. youll also need a different yoke at the tranny. and if you havent thought of it, you need to upgrade your gears to at least a 4.88 on a 30" tall tire.

kren7604 02-26-2012 11:09 PM

would an f-body driveshaft and yoke work?! and idk how tall mine are.. i think theyre 275/45/20s... i just got stock 3.73's for now. im gona upgrade to a detroit true track locker as well. I for sure want the motor and tranny done and installed by the end of may before i leave for basic, after that im just gona do ther rest little by little.. its hard to try an get everything done bc im never home due to working on the road... im maybe home 2-5 days outa a month

RED04REGENCYRST 02-26-2012 11:18 PM

your tires are right around 30" tall. you will have to have a driveshaft made. the fbody one wont handle the stress from the extra weight of the truck, but i also dont think it is the right length.

fyi on gears, notice the difference in how long it takes to spin up.

kren7604 02-26-2012 11:59 PM

Nice!! what rpm's are u running in 6th say at 80 mph? and are caltracks really worth it, im having issues with spinning once i get over a certain speed, mostly high rpm's in 2nd gear, and no matter what i do off the line she just spins and gets bent:burnout:

RED04REGENCYRST 02-27-2012 12:21 AM

At 80mph I'm at about 2300rpms with the 4.88's.

And the cal-tracs are totally worth the money. I can almost dead hook on street tires at the track and very little spin on the street.

Holy hell. You could've pushed the fucker down the track and gotten a better 60' lol.

RSTinOKC 02-27-2012 07:44 AM

I know, right? With a good 60' and that MPH which would probably be a little higher with a good 60 as well I'm thinking low 14's high 13's...just need to learn how to drive lol.

edit: @Billy - Yeah street tires, no idea what the track temp was...the ambient was about 60* Most of the problem was me dumping the clutch at ~2500.

I have a T-56 with the Keisler midshift kit. Not gonna lie, its not an easy swap. I did it for a Sonoma I had and have been thinking about putting it in my truck. And based off of my measurement, it is about 2" off still but a hell of a lot closer than not moving it. It's a very good kit. From what I can tell it is also a sudo short throw.

kren7604 02-27-2012 08:30 PM

very nice man, an yea i can live with that.. I have a guy who works n tranny shop here n Topeka and specializes in t-56. said he will do the swap for me including teardown and rebuild for $350 i just pay for parts... i plan on buying the Keisler kit n about a month when i get back from Vegas. Do u think i would be able to reuse the shift lever out of my RST?!?! if i just got a different ball for the 6 spd

kren7604 02-27-2012 10:15 PM

heres small vid of my truck after my tune from HP Tuners from 20 roll, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd

RED04REGENCYRST 02-27-2012 11:56 PM

Kren - I run hankook ventus tires and love them. As far as the shifter, you won't be able to reuse it without some modification. The rst shifter is threaded on a stud, not bolted like the T-56 shifter. The tune did that 4.8 some good.

Yea it did, it woke her up lol, but i actually just ordered me a set of hankook ventus st rh06 online... only paid $283.28 (including shipping) all the local tire stores wanted like $400+ lol

RED04REGENCYRST 02-28-2012 05:09 PM

If you haven't already, get some long tube headers, and if you can dutch the cats. They will give you more bottom end torque.

kren7604 02-28-2012 06:44 PM

I planned on that eventually.. but right now i have factory jba shorty headers with catts goin to straits and xpipe n middle then out back through the tips.. im kinda crunched on time for now for my modds bc im leaving end of may for Air Force.

Silver05Rst 02-29-2012 12:06 AM

Need some advice...

So last summer i got my foose 20's powdercoat black from the crome because they were all pitted and looked like crap. Did a good job for $48 a wheel. Except now im pissed off causei went to spray them off with hot water from all the salt on the roads and they peel'd like paper off... :sigh:

Any tips on a good place to send my wheels in to get completly redone? Or would it not even be worth it and just buy another set of wheels?

sounds like the material that got into the wheels and caused them to pit was never cleaned out properly, and it caused the wheel to continue to corrode under the powdercoat.

fyi - if you are thinking about getting rid of them let me know what you would have to have for them.

the cats restrict flow horribly. which is what causes you to loose that extra bottom end power i was talking of.

I have hi-flow catts, i did a full custom exhaust right after i bought it to give it alittle more power and to sound good

Foose04 - have you moved the shackle to the top hole? If not that will give you another 1" drop in the rear.

This is what I got the rear. Would be safe to say the foward bracket drops me 2" and this is a 1" shackle? Or is it the there way around, 1" bracket on front spring, 2" shackle. I'm not home right now so I can't measure it, was just wondering if someone could tell by looking it.

i think i've seen guys post saying you can do it either way...if you pull them separate you'll have to drop the tranny x-member & y-pipe as well but i think that would probably be the easiest way to go about it IMO

RED04REGENCYRST 03-02-2012 08:48 AM

^ I agree

I did mine in 2 pieces, and I thought it went very easy.

kren7604 03-02-2012 06:03 PM

ok sweet, ill probably just pull them seperately.. cant wait to get home and start the swap!!!

billy you ever feel like getting rid of your t-56 i'll be more than glad to take it off your hands :burnout:

RSTinOKC 03-04-2012 05:55 PM

Did slightly better today 15.31 @ 93.1 with a 2.51 60'...gonna need some DR's or slicks to get this bitch outta the hole. Weighed in at 4605.

Silver05Rst 03-06-2012 01:02 AM

So what do u guys think?

Forte wheels

Im thinking this is going to be the next set to go on her :)

Silver05Rst 03-06-2012 10:32 PM

P.S. Will a 295-45-20 tire fit on our foose 20x8.5 rims?

RED04REGENCYRST 03-07-2012 12:44 PM

I think they will fit, but I think they will also be hanging over the wheel a pretty good amount.
