Default A little advice please.

Hiya guys. As you can tell I am crossing over to the truck world. In the next few months I am hoping to have a newer truck and am going to sell my 98. What I need advice on is this. I had plans on getting a extended cab LT Silverado with the 5.3 and have had my cousin who works at a dealership looking for me as well as looking myself. I have a buddy who has a body shop/car lot and I noticed one day about a month ago he had a red SS sitting out in front of his shop for sale. I didn't even bother asking because I knew it would be more than I wanted to spend. One day last week my wife happened to see him and asked him about the truck. It's a 03, has the charcoal leather and is in pretty good shape but it has 120k "highway" miles. Turns out he bought it from another friend of his who needed some money bad and he will let me have the truck for 14500. I drove it last week for a day and loved it. The next day a guy was susposta buy it unless I wanted it. I was kinda concerned about the miles and didn't want him to miss making a sell so I told him to sell it if he could. Well that guys deal fell through and now i'm thinking about it again. I know it's a lot of miles but I still can't help but wonder if I should go this route.
If I get a regular Silvy I had plans on dropping it and getting some nice 20s, new front bumper, prob a cowl hood and maybe even some go fast parts. With the price I will pay for the truck I want and all the extra crap I want I will have more than I would in this SS and wouldn't have half the *****. Another thing i'm a little worried about is the gas mileage. I've read on few sites that they only get 13 mpg. Is that stock or with some mods? Anyone have any ideas about the awd systems reliability? That's about the only thing i'm worried about as far as miles go. I know the LS2 is capable of high miles but I don't know anything about awd. Any advice you guys could give would be appriciated.

I forgot to add that this truck will be my daily driver and I drive about 35 miles a day to work. I'll prob start driving my new truck more than my wife car so it will see some miles if that helps anyone. Thanks again...
