Default Current tire choices for 275/55/20? Proxes ST III on backorder

Waking up the sleepy SS forum I hope...

What's your go-to tire for the factory 275/55/20 size? I've been running Toyo Proxes ST III for a few years now and happy with them but the fronts on my wife's truck are due for replacement and she's taking a road trip pretty soon so I need to replace them ASAP - but ST III's are on backorder and I can't find them anywhere. Well, there's *1* new tire on eBay but 1 tire doesn't help me.. need 2.

I'm almost considering an OEM tire (Goodyear Eagle Sport A/S) since it's an XL rated tire and has reasonably good reviews for what it is. Not a fan of anything made in Korea, China, etc. so please no Kumho's or Linglong Chingchong Longmile Anytire etc.

Application is a stock '06 SS RWD that is a daily driver in an area that is ridiculously hot half the year and gets below freezing a few times in the winter but no real snow, and PLENTY of rain, at least most of the time, anyway. Houston TX

For me, the Good Years just don't last.

I am running the General Graber HTS60's. Mine say made in Portugal on them.

I had Nexxen in the past as well but they don't seem to wear evenly towards the end of there life. They are also a Korean tire so....

The General has 2 versions of the HTS60's tire in that size. Looks like I have the T version. Both are XL rated in that specific size.

04505030000 has an H Speed rating with an A temperature rating
04505020000 has an T Speed rating with a B temperature rating

I'd go with a Nitto Tire, they make 2 options in that size.

The Nitto NT420V and the NT421Q. I run the 421's on my Silverado, they are a really nice tire.

I had the 421Q's on my truck in 22" when I picked up a set of used Centerlines. The tires were practically new. They ended up going really lumpy on me, all four of 'em. It's hard for me to put all the blame on the tires as it turned out my shocks were toast, but they weren't the usual bad shock cupped wear, it was more like separated belts. Used tires are always a gamble to a degree but these looked really nice. So, I'm kinda sketchy on those but maybe not for any good reason.

I was thinking more along the lines of the General Grabber UHP, it's an XL load rated all season/sport truck type tire. I'm a little concerned by the low UTQG rating of 360 but everything you read tells you the number is kinda arbitrary as it's more or less "self graded" by the manufacturer, not really based on any real standards. :/

But now, I'm starting to see estimated delivery dates on the Toyo Proxes ST III's near the end of the month (according to Tire Rack), so I'm considering holding out. These have been a pretty good all-around tire for me.

I got a set of General HTS60 (h rated) on the Denali about 2 years ago. They are not a sport truck tire but they have good dry and wet traction, ride smooth, tow well and have worn good. I've been pleased with them so far.

Not sure if you bought em yet. I'm always taking turns aggressively, hard rights between 20-30.

I had the Firestone destination LE2s, and between AZ and TX, with never doing an intentional burnout, they lasted 17K miles.
Then went to the Kumho Crugens, and those handled horrible, and lasted 19K miles.

Someone (I think from here) recommended, what I have now, the Continental Terrain Contact HT.
In 20K miles I've gone from 12/32 to 8/32. They handle as good if not better than the Firestones. No road noise, handle decently well in the rain (with a truetrac and caltracs). I think I'm on my 6th different tire, and for the first time, I'm getting these again next time.

T rated 118
275/55/20 is an available size.
Made in Germany and USA.

That Terrain Contact HT doesn't look like a bad option. Good to hear you'd buy them again - but so far you're just 20K miles in? Please do post back when they get near the end of life, how many miles you got out of them, and what your rotation habits were.

The Toyos I've been running are directional so I've just been moving rears to front when the fronts wear out. Can't honestly say I've paid that much attention to how quickly they wear as I expect a shorter lifespan from a "sport" type tire although they are clearly not all-out performance soft compound, not by a long shot.

Haven't bought tires just yet as the Proxes ST III are still out of stock but expected pretty much any day now.
