I know ls1 type clutch, driveshaft is different, sensors, and the shifter comes way back further so you lose the jumpseat.
if you are talking about the spacer that fits between trans and bell housing, for me it was a must my trans which came from a 1998 and up ls1 camaro apparantely has a longer imput shaft than previous years.. but it really depends on what engine your installing it on. my truck is an 04 4.8 so my crank flange is .400" longer in the rear than an ls engine.. so i had to use the spacer for the trans to compensate.. i tried to install without spacer and the imput shaft would bottom out before trans would sit flush to bellhousing. good luck if you have any other questions let me know hopefully i can help

I have an 02 with the 4.8l and was wondering about the trans crossmember does this need to be moved back too? Also there is no way that you can use the factory manual shifter hole in the floorboard? Where did u get the spacer from? can I use the truck flywheel so i get a 12" clutch or do i have to use the clutch for the t56 tranny? any info would be very much appreciated? Rayhinnant@yahoo.com

on my 04 cross member lined up perfect but mine was originally a 5spd so if you have automatic i dont think it would be a direct bolt up. i dont think there is a way to use the old shifter hole there are some manufacturers that sell a relocation kit for the shifter but you will still need to cut a few inches towards the rear, i got spacer from mcloed industries, it came with the bellhousing but im sure they will sell seperately. im not sure about flywheel.

I'd recommend the cam listed in my sig, but not sure if you can get one anymore.

-Hey bro, I have a 06' RST. Have a Xtreme Flat tonneau cover but had to take the original spoiler off because the spoiler would not allow for the bed cover. How did you get yours to fit together, or what kind of tonneau do you have so that I may look into that one to be able to place my spoiler back on??? Thanks!!! -Flo.

I have a 2007 GMC savana motor 4.8L that I am swapping into a Colorado along with a T56 will the clutch flywheel from a 98-02 camaro 5.7L work? I am concerned about balance, and weather the wholes line up? I don't think I will need a spacer because the flex-plate had a .4 inch spacer on it, meaning I have the normal .4 inch shorter crank style

itll work, youll just have to remove the spacer for the f-body clutch. the bell housing should bolt up no problem, unless there was a design change on the 07+ motors.

question though, why a 4.8L? why not a 5.3L or a 6.0L? they are all the same block, just different internals for the most part.

my biggest concern was weather the 4.8 was balance any different then the f body 5.7L motor, I didn't want to through my moor out of balance or something!

I went with a 4.8L because I picked up the wholes van for 1400.00 running still with only 13,292 kms he had a hit a tree, I a am parting out the rest, and so far without selling anything else, or getting scrap for the shell the engine has only cost me 600.00 good price for everything that I need, plus I take it all apart my self! the truck I am putting it into only weighs 3400 pounds so it should be plenty powerful for it!

Wow. I didn't see this thread before. If going from a 5 speed to a T56 (in the 04-06's+ at least for sure) You just have to pull the large pilot bearing and install a T56 pilot bearing that goes further into the crankshaft and will allow the trans to pull up flush with the block.

And as far as power with a 4.8 and radix, I made 431rwhp/489tq with a trucker cam and 3.0" pulley 5 years ago.
Everyone thinks you need to just throw the 4.8 away but I do remember waxing a Lighting at the track that had ported blower and full bolt ons with my junk 4.8.

I am going from a 4L80E to a T56 or a custom adapter to the stock transmission in my Colorado at the moment I have know pilot bearing at all, Also apparently the 07 and up truck motors no longer come with the longer crank shaft, instead it is the same as the 5.3 6.0, and features a .4" pressed on spacer to the flex-plate, when coupled to a 4L80E.

So sounds like I should be good to go with the luk Z06 clutch kit, and LS1 98-02 camaro flywheel, they whole package with new pilot bearing was only 317.94 from ebay!

good to hear you made that kind of power! what came did you use? See that is one reason why I wanted a 4.8 as they are not DOD, and don't need to replace the lifters timing set etc.. to do a cam swap, were most of the 5.3 are DOD!
