Steel 2 piece driveshaft conversion for crew cab

Default Steel 2 piece driveshaft conversion for crew cab

Anyone done it? After installing procharger and doing tune on my 17 LTZ crew I'm getting terrible shake from my 1 piece aluminum driveshaft at 100mph+. I talked to a driveline shop about building me a steel one and they said they can build me a steel one that won't come apart but will not solve my shaking issue, only delay it to 105-110mph. He says that a 1 piece shaft that long just isn't meant to go that fast and I need to convert to a 2 piece. I know this was a common mod on the 03-06 crews but curious if anyone has done this on a 14+ and if so what they used.

It appears that my driveshaft is flexing enough to hit my muffler when it shakes ��

Get under your truck and look for a spot where you can mount a cross member...should be just ahead of the fuel tank....measure frame to frame and get a cross member fabricated...as far as I know nobody makes a bolt in 2 piece driveshaft, will have to be all custom...check out thread below

Well there ya go....why not go with that kit? I blew an OE Aluminum driveshaft apart at around 115-120MPH in an 06 CCSB 2wd, it took out the 4l60e case as well...they are paper thin...there are a couple guys here running them but they are few and far between bc most are going with 4x4 truck for modding for traction...but if you want to be able to safely go 100+ and not worry about the driveline going boom the 2 piece driveshaft is a must

I know this thread is CC specific, but does anyone know anything about the drive shaft in a 17 Yukon Denali 4x4? I believe they are limited to around 115 from the factory, and I don't have any issues with vibrations at 100+. My Yukon put down 600hp/675tq to the wheel, is that too much for the stock driveshaft to handle?

If I should be changing out the driveshaft, does anyone have any good recommendations for companies to build a driveshaft?

I would be scared to run any stock driveshaft past 100mph. It may not vibrate now but when it does and when it does fail in explosive fashion it won't be pretty. The thin walled aluminum shaft just can't take the speed.

A thick walled 3in steel shaft would be a great upgrade.

If it's aluminum have a steel one built, if it's steel you're probably fine if you're not breaking 100 mph @ WOT often.

I guess I will get a new driveshaft made. I really love walking away from 5.0 mustangs... and I don't even want to know what the aftermath of a grenaded driveshaft at 100 MPH+ looks like... not to mention costs $$$

Man its funny to see the look of bewilderment of a mustang driver who just got walked by a Yukon though.... thats priceless
