Default Intercooler efficiency: Bottom Inlet/Outlet vs Side Inlet/ Outlet?

I have done a few hours of searching to figure out what my new intercooler setup will be, but I figured a post is in order to get everyone's opinion. Since I have an 05 with the 34" radiator, I'll need to do a fair amount of hacking to the headlight brackets and things will still be real real tight with the radiator if I want a side inlet/ outlet. Or I can run a Trick 3"/4"/5" race intercooler which is a bottom inlet/ outlet. I was also thinking about the 1300hp Treadstone intercooler. Or I suppose there are the eBay/CX Racing intercoolers which an equal number of guys say "are junk" vs say they're using them with great results. At this moment in time, I'd like to stay with running 100% E85 and not spraying meth, although in the future I'm not opposed to using E85+meth, I was just hoping I wouldn't have to deal with it.

I'm just wondering if the bottom inlet/outlet is as effective as the side inlet/outlet. My logs are showing the computer was pulling 10 degrees of timing during my runs. IAT's were at 115* idling in the pits before the run (89* ambient) and 190* by the end of the run.

*to the owners of these trucks my apologies for not mentioning who these belong to*

This first guy's setup is real clean but I know it will be much more of a hassle in terms of piping, bracket fabrication, etc than a bottom inlet intercooler.

The ideal A/A IC is horizonal core, with center inlet/outlet and well designed endtakes with a garrett core. Look at any of the big names in IC, this is what they will build you. Anything else is a compromise.

There's a local guy here I met at the dyno, low 10 sec truck who swears by E85+meth. I mean from a power standpoint I can see how meth wouldn't be needed, but from a consistency standpoint, E85 can't lower IATs as much as meth can right?

you need heat to burn e85 too cold of an intake temp can actually hurt power. Same reason you go to a hotter plug when swapping to e85. That guy might be using meth more as a fuel then for cooling.

Makes sense. I'm gonna sort out my intercooler / IAT issue before making any other changes.
